Starting from 29 May 2022, ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority) will issue only Online Death Certificates. Physical Death Certificates will no longer be issued in Singapore.
A Medical Practitioner will go online to certify the Death. The death certificate will automatically be generated in the ICA’s system.
Family members will then obtain the Death Certificate number from the Medical Practitioner. Download the Death Certificate through the My Legacy Portal.
This will replace the previous administrative hassle of having to obtain the CCOD (Certificate Of Cause of Death) from the Medical Practitioner and then applying for the Death Certificate using the CCOD. Also, this will save manpower that is needed to mend the counters over at Major Hospitals and Police Stations.
From 29 May, family members of the deceased will go through a smooth process to obtain the Death Certificate online. For deceased who have done their pre-planning, family members will have an even smoother process as all bereavement services arrangements would have been made.
The most important bereavement service would be the funeral and final resting place arrangements that will take up a huge cost at times of urgency.
