About Lin San Temple

Lin San Temple, located at 27 Lorong 12, Geylang, Singapore, is a significant Place of Worship that blends tradition with modern innovation in the realm of Buddhist practices and memorial services. Originally founded in the 1960s by the Guangdong Venerable Rui Xiang, the temple faced several challenges over the decades, including structural damage from surrounding developments. Despite this, it was under the stewardship of Venerable Seang Heng, who took over the temple’s administration in the early 1970s, that Lin San Temple became a hub for religious gatherings, charity work, and spiritual education.

The temple underwent significant rebuilding efforts following safety concerns in the early 2000s, which were compounded by financial challenges. Venerable Seang Heng’s passing in 2017 did not halt the temple’s revival. In 2020, with support from disciples and a collaboration with Nirvana Memorial Garden, the temple’s reconstruction was completed, fulfilling Venerable Seang Heng’s vision. Today, Lin San Temple stands as a fully air-conditioned, three-story Buddhist sanctuary offering freehold columbarium niches and ancestral tablets, providing a serene environment for devotees.

As a key part of its mission, Lin San Temple continues to be a place of worship, offering a variety of religious services, including prayers, charity events, and dharma teachings. It represents a blend of reverence for tradition and commitment to modernity, ensuring that future generations can continue to practice Buddhism in a comfortable and spiritual space

The History

Established in the mid 19th Century by Hakka Shifu Ruixiang of Guangdong, Lin San Temple has been a mainstay in 27 Lorong 12 Geylang.

Upon Shifu Ruixiang’s passing in the 1960s, Venerable Seang Heng took over the helm and oversaw the first reconstruction of Lin San Temple in 1973.

In the early years, Lin San housed Ceremonial Prayer services, and took part in charities by orphanages and elderly homes.

The Present

20 years ago, Lin San Temple structure was identified as a perilous structure by authorities. Reconstruction of Lin San Temple had to be carried out. However, due to the lack of funding, the reconstruction work had to be shelved. Even right up till the death of Venerable Seang Heng in 2017.

Despite his passing, efforts to reconstruct Lin San Temple persevered in his spirit. After rounds of fundraising, Lin San Temple’s reconstruction was finally underway. On 11 March 2022, the revamped Lin San Temple was completed, fulfilling the Final Wish of Venerable Seang Heng!
